About Wendy Provins

Wendy Provins I was born and raised in Flin Flon, a small city in northern Manitoba, Canada. I have resided in various parts of Canada as well as spending fours years in Brisbane, Australia. I have only recently relocated/retired in Keremeos, British Columbian, Canada (May 2014) and have been truly inspired by the incredible beauty of the surroundings as well as the wonderful people who inhabit the Similkameen Valley. I have gone from the black and white world of banking, to a world of colour. I feel so at home and know that at this stage in my life, this is where I need to be.

I am basically a self taught artist although I have always had a pencil or paint brush in my hand from a very young age. I have taken the odd course when I was able to and have always found something positive to take away and apply in my own way. About ten years ago, I was diagnosed with a genetic condition called Marfan Syndrome. This is a connective tissue disorder and it caused the ligaments supporting the lens in my eyes to break. My vision in both eyes was affected and I eventually had six eye surgeries over a two year period. It was during this period that I picked up my brushes and rekindled my passion for watercolours. This was very therapeuritc and I have never looked back.

For the past four years, I have taken my art in a different direction painting mainly with acrylics. I have a love for birch trees probably because of my love of the north with its abundant trees, lakes and rocks, but have also incorporated circles into many of my more whimisical paintings. Living in the Okanagan continues to inspire me.

I currently have my art work displayed at several galleries and locations in Manitoba. In the Okanagan I have my work for sale at The Old Grist Mill, Tree to Me, and Emmy's Bakery. This month (October 2014) a new gallery in Peachland, British Columbia will open and I was one of 15 artists selected to have my work displayed/for sale. This month I will also be in an art show with my husband at Tree to Me.

Thank you for taking the time to review my art work. Please contact me with any questions.
